Lowell House Opera Presents Viva La Vie Boheme: A Musical Dialogue Between La Boheme and Rent

Lowell House Opera proudly announces Viva La Vie Boheme: A Musical Dialogue Between La Bohème and Rent. This innovative concert, intertwining Jonathan Larson's Rent with Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème, will be held at the historic Lowell House Dining Hall at Harvard College on Friday, April 12th at 8:30pm, marking a long-awaited return to this iconic venue.

EXPLORING PARALLEL NARRATIVES

This unique event features alternating musical numbers, exploring the gritty urban struggles of Rent and the romanticized bohemian life of La Bohème. Expert moderators will offer insightful commentary, analyzing Rent's modern reinterpretation of La Bohème's timeless characters and themes.

“In examining ‘Rent’ and ‘La Boheme’ side by side, we hope to inspire audiences to ponder theories of adaptation, understanding the lasting legacy of 19th century opera on 20th century artforms” asserts Lauren Perl, the Director of Viva La Vie Boheme.

A COMMITMENT TO ARTISTIC EXPLORATION

Lowell House Opera is dedicated to providing a platform for artistic exploration and collaboration between students and professionals.

“Following the success of The Unknowable and NIGHTTOWN, Lowell House Opera positions itself as the organization that fosters original storytelling. LHO will continue to discover how the opera medium can present invigorating narratives” - Benjamin T. Rossen, LHO Executive Director

SUPPORTING A CAUSE

“To honor the radically progressive nature of these productions, this production will serve as a fundraiser for Fenway Health Alliance, which aims to stop the AIDS epidemic and related health inequities by eliminating new infections, maximizing healthier outcomes for those infected and at risk, and tackling the root causes of HIV/AIDS.” - Lauren Perl, Director of Viva La Vie Boheme
