AUDITION!
Auditions are Open for “Parade in Concert: The Trial Behind the Tragedy”
Lowell House Opera, in collaboration with Harvard Hillel, is proud to present Parade in Concert: The Trial Behind the Tragedy. This unique production interweaves haunting songs from Jason Robert Brown’s musical with real testimony from the historic antisemitic 1913 trial of Leo Frank.
Coming to Harvard April 26th-27th, LHO is currently seeking auditions from students and emerging artists in the Greater Boston area. LHO invites you to be a part of this powerful production.
Parade dramatizes the real-life trial of Leo Frank, a Jewish man wrongly accused of murder in Marietta, Georgia. Through the lens of this tragic event, Parade explores the pervasive antisemitism and racism within the legal system, culminating in Frank’s lynching and the rise of the Ku Klux Klan.
To bring the story to life in a meaningful and impactful way, this production will feature archival materials—letters, newspaper headlines, affidavits—read by actors in place of the original script. These materials, projected behind the performers, will deepen the audience's understanding of the historical context while the instrumentalists perform on stage with the vocalists.

LHO will be accepting video submissions from now until 6PM EST on March 9th and offering in-person auditions from 1PM-4PM on Sunday, March 9th. Zoom appointments during that window will be available upon request.
Sign up for an in-person slot here! Walk-ins will be seen as time allows.
In advance of your audition, please familiarize yourself with the sides for any characters in which you are interested, and prepare a one-minute cut of a song in the style of the show. If you are joining us for an in-person audition, be ready to sing a contrasting piece if asked. For the callback, you will have the opportunity to perform a piece from the show. The piece for each character is in the audition folder, but there is no need to learn it for the preliminary audition!
If you are comfortable, please be prepared to read/sing in an American Southern Dialect.
See the folders (by character) for sides/songs.
